If you're talking about lean sources of protein then yes we cannot consider grains etc as protein source…coz the carb to protein ratio is very high…but when it comes to a diet as a whole then it does not matter as long as the daily protein requirements are met with a combination of foods…by your logic vegans should not be able to build muscle at all but they do as long as they meet their daily protein requirements.. yes it will be difficult to build muscle along with staying within a calorie range in a vegan diet because plant sources generally have greater carbs so to get the same amount of protein that one would get from a non veg diet one will have to consume more calories…but if properly planned there isn't much evidence (as far as I know) to support that consuming just plant sources won't build muscle…your basic premise is true but I think you're fear mongering a little by telling that plant sources won't help at all in building muscle when properly planned and including a variety of foods…
